How to organise a Progress Review

The following guidelines outline the management and conduct of HDR Progress Reviews in the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. These guidelines should be used in combination with the Higher Degree by Research Candidature Policy and the Higher Degree by Research Candidature Procedure. Note: Documents should be submitted by the census date of the research quarter in which your review is due.

Panel Composition

Your Progress Review Panel (PRP) in the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering will consist of a chair (with disciplinary knowledge of the HDR) and two reviewers. The advisory team (Principal supervisor and associate supervisor) can give input to the review panel and the panel will make independent decision on the progress.

Confirmation of Candidature Review (R1)

Your confirmation of candidature review will include the submission of your candidature and project documents, a 60-minute meeting with the review panel, including 30-minute oral presentation and 20 minutes of question time and closed discussion. Oral presentations are scheduled at a time convenient to the review panel and the candidate, and the seminar is announced to the school.

Written feedback will be provided by your reviewers before the review meeting, and you will be required to prepare a written response to this feedback during the oral session. Your chair will also prepare a written report detailing the recommendations of the Progress Review Panel to the Dean, UQ Graduate School.

Progress Review 2 (R2)

Your second progress review will include the submission of your candidature documents, a brief progress report and project documents, and a 60-minute meeting with the review panel. If the candidate was unable to present at a conference, they will have an opportunity to deliver a presentation on research progress.

Written feedback will be provided by your reviewers during the review meeting, and you will be required to prepare a written response to this feedback during the interview. Your chair will also prepare a written report detailing the recommendations of the Progress Review Panel to the Dean, UQ Graduate School.

Progress Review 3 (R3)

Your third progress review will include the submission of your candidature and project documents, a 60- minute meeting with the review panel, including a 30 -minute oral presentation (Seminar) and 20 minutes of question/discussion session. This seminar will be announced to the school, and anyone interested in the presentation can attend.

Written feedback will be provided by your reviewers during the review meeting, and you will be required to prepare a written response to this feedback. Your chair will also prepare a written report detailing the recommendations of the Progress Review Panel to the Dean, UQ Graduate School.
