Welcome to the start of your Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Program at UQ. The information below is a quick reference resource to help you settle into your enrolling unit, the Institute for Social Science Research.

Below is a list of useful sites for you to access. Please be aware that you will only be able to access these sites once you have been formally enrolled. For some sites, such as online training, you will need to wait until you receive a workday Login from HR, which can take up to 3 weeks from commencement.

Building/Lab Access	Rebecca McEwen-Smith is the Institute’s Office Administrator, and your key contact for all matters related to building access, desk allocation, and equipment including computers. Please email Rebecca (r.mcewensmith@uq.edu.au) to discuss your needs.

Health Safety and Wellness Compliance	For general advice on your project you should contact your advisory team. Please contact the School’s Health Safety and Wellness Officer if you have any concerns or queries about safety at the school. There is also a central Occupational Health Safety and Wellness Unit.

HDR Social Group	TBC
HDR Funding	HDR candidates can access research support funding (up to $4000 for candidates commencing from 2021) to help with costs of fieldwork, conference attendance, data management and collection, specialised software and fees for specialised training. More information, including the application form, is available on ISSR’s HDR candidate intranet [login required].
Specialised HDR training	HDR candidates enrolled through ISSR are eligible to attend up to two short courses on research methods each year; these courses are run by ISSR at no charge to current candidates. See ISSR’s HDR candidate intranet [login required] for more information.
