Building/Lab Access | All building/lab access is via swipe card, using your student ID card. To activate this access, your Principal Advisor needs to email keys@scmb.uq.edu.au with your name, student ID, and building/room/lab number. You may be required to complete inductions prior to gaining access. |
Desk Allocation | The Principal Advisor coordinates and assigns desks for all HDR students. To arrange, please contact your Principal Advisor. |
Equipment Requests | You have access to the SCMB HDR Student Support Fund to purchase a computer (Max $2,000), if you choose. Information about accessing this fund is found on the SCMB HDR blackboard site. |
Health Safety and Wellness Compliance | For general advice on your project, you should contact your advisory team. Please contact sciohs@uq.edu.au if you have any concerns or queries about safety at the school or safety inductions required. |

Seminar Series/Key Events | You can access all seminars being held at UQ within the coming week, in the broad area of Science. You should also receive emails from SCMB about these and other local seminars, that may be of interest. SCMB also has a weekly newsletter called “The Week Ahead” which you will receive via email, that highlights any changes or initiatives within the School. The Flagship event for HDR students within the school is the annual SCMB Research Students Symposium, which usually occurs in November or December each year. You will be alerted to register via email. |
HDR Social Group | Have your say and join Research Students Advisory Group (RSAG), or submit your feedback to its members. The group provides representation for honours and higher degree by research students to enable:
Members also organise regular social events and workshops, including the annual SCMB Research Students Symposium. There is also the SCMB Research Student Social Club, who can be contacted via SCMBsocial@gmail.com. This club runs trivia nights and a monthly catch-up on the Chemistry podium. |
HDR Funding | SCMB offer competitively awarded specialist travel and research collaboration awards to support short-term international placements, internships and conference travel. Please see the HDR scholarships, awards and financial support page for more details. Student Support Fund: All SCMB–enrolled HDR candidates can apply for grants up to a total of $6,000 (PhD) or $3,000 (MPhil) over the life of their candidature. Eligibility is independent of scholarships and other sources of funding. Information about this scheme is via the Blackboard site but if you have any questions, please contact the hdr.scmb@enquire.uq.edu.au. |
Specialised HDR training | The DHDR usually runs training sessions once or twice a year that are relevant to HDR candidature, you will be advised of these through the school newsletter. |
