5. Deferred exam dates

Mid-semester exams

Deferred mid-semester examinations are held during a period nominated by the relevant school.

If your deferred mid-semester examination request is approved, the relevant school will notify you of the scheduled date and time of the deferred examination.

Deferred mid-semester examinations are usually in the same format as the original mid-semester examination (e.g. if you defer a multiple-choice exam, your deferred exam will be a multiple-choice exam).

However, in some circumstances a deferred mid-semester exam may take the form of an oral examination.

You must be available to sit your deferred examination at the scheduled date and time. There are no provisions to sit deferred examinations earlier than scheduled, or for further deferral of a deferred examination.

The deferred examination will be the final opportunity for you to sit the examination. If you fail to sit your deferred examination, you will be awarded zero marks for the examination.

End-of-semester exams

Deferred end-of-semester examinations are held during the University’s deferred examination periods:

  • Semester 1: July.
  • Semester 2: December.
  • Summer Semester: March.

Times for deferred exams are published on myUQ.

If you are in your final semester and you are approved to sit a deferred end-of-semester examination, you are not eligible to graduate at the concurrent graduation ceremonies.

In certain circumstances, a student may be eligible to sit a deferred exam off campus.
