HECS-HELP
1. Overview
HECS-HELP is a loan scheme the Australian Government offers to help you pay all or part of the fees you owe for a subsidised course.
If you enrol in a subsidised program (a Commonwealth Supported Place or CSP), the Australian Government will pay your university a portion of the fees, but you must pay the balance (your student contribution). Most undergraduate courses are subsidised.
This page explains how:
- to initiate a HECS-HELP loan through mySI-net
- to complete an electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form (eCAF)
- we calculate your student contributions
- to make an upfront payment
- to view your invoices and other important information.
See the Study Assist website for more information on HECS-HELP loans, including eligibility criteria.
Due dates
You need to be aware of 2 critical dates – fee due date and Census Date.
Fee due date
You must pay your fees by the due date:
- For standard semesters, research quarters and teaching periods, view fee due dates in the Academic Calendar.
- For programs and courses with unique dates - such as medical or intensive programs - go to 'Enrolments' on mySI-net.
Census Date
We finalise all enrolment details and fee payments on the Census Date.
By the Census Date, you must have:
- completed your electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form (eCAF) to accept your Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP)
- completed your HECS-HELP loan application if you are applying for a loan
- withdrawn from any courses to avoid financial penalties.
To find your Census Date:
- For standard semesters, research quarters and teaching periods, view Census Date in the Academic Calendar.
- For programs and courses with unique dates - such as medical or intensive programs - go to 'Enrolments' on mySI-net.
Your enrolment will be cancelled unless you pay your fees or finalise your HECS-HELP loan application by the Census Date.
