Welcome to the Business, Economics and Law (BEL) Faculty. Before you arrive on campus for Orientation Week, you should be aware of important dates and explore the available online and in-person classes that prepare you for your first semester.
As a new international student, you can access support from our dedicated First Semester Advisors, covering:
- your BEL studies
- credit transfers
- planning your enrolment.
Before you start Orientation Week
Important dates
You must enrol in at least one course (subject) before the end of Orientation Week.
To enrol, visit Starting at UQ and follow your program plan.
Academic calendar
Check the Academic calendar to see important dates such as:
- semester start dates
- census dates
- exam periods.
Credit for Previous Study
If UQ has given you credit for previous study:
- Enrol in the courses listed in your “Welcome to UQ – Study Plan” email.
- Follow this study plan as closely as possible.
This will help you complete your degree on time and avoid problems later.
Preparing to start at UQ (Information sessions)
Our online Preparing to start at UQ sessions are useful for:
- new UQ students
- international students coming to Australia for the first time.
These sessions will help you:
- understand life at UQ
- get ready to study in Brisbane
- feel confident in your first weeks at university.
Students and parents are welcome to attend.

English language support
Free resources are available to help you improve your academic English skills.
Sessions will take place from January to February to prepare you for Semester 1, 2026.

First Semester Advisors
Our First Semester Advisors are here to help you with:
- your BEL studies
- credit transfers
- planning your enrolment.

Book an appointment
You can book an appointment online using the first letter of your family name (UQ login required). Meetings are held:
- in-person at the BEL Student Centre
- online via Zoom.

Before you book
- You can self-book once you have enrolled in at least one course via mySI-net.
- Review your program requirements and course list before meeting with your first semester adviser.
- Tell us what you would like to discuss in the additional comments section when booking an appointment. For example:
- program change (indicate the program you wish to change to)
- credit transfer
- changing majors
- struggling with your courses.
