Summer Semester

UQ has a number of courses available for enrolment in the intensive 8-week Summer Semester each year, providing an opportunity to:

• Finish your degree faster (if you're a UQ student).
• Undertake courses to meet prerequisite requirements for another program.
• Discover new subject areas like anthropology, history, nutrition, criminology and economics.
• Study during a concentrated period and in smaller classes than ordinary semesters.
• Gain experience studying at university.
• Develop new skills and new ways of understanding the world.
• Enjoy the opportunity to study with a diverse group of people in a supportive environment.

Anyone is eligible to enrol in the Summer Semester, but please note some courses are only available to UQ award students (i.e. current students who are enrolled in a UQ degree).

Past applicants have included:

• students from other universities, including international students
• professionals
• adults from a range of backgrounds
• high-school students.

In addition to courses offered through Summer Semester, the Institute of Modern Languages offers more than 30 language courses and UQ College offers English-language training.

Other university students

If you're enrolled at another Australian university and you want to undertake a course at UQ during Summer Semester for credit towards your program at your home institution, you should apply as a "cross-institutional student".

Before you apply, make sure you get approval from your home university and confirm you can get credit for your UQ studies.

All other interested applicants

All other interested applicants should enrol in Summer Semester as "non-award students".

"Non-award" simply means you are not enrolled in a program that would lead to award of a degree (i.e. an "award" is the qualification you earn after completing an academic program).

Non-award students typically undertake UQ courses for a range of reasons, including personal or professional development.

Commonwealth Supported students

If you're a domestic UQ student studying in a Commonwealth Supported place or a domestic cross-institutional student, you may be eligible to enrol in Summer Semester as a Commonwealth Supported student if:

• you meet course eligibility requirements, and
• the course will count for credit towards your degree / program.

Submit a new HECS-HELP eCAF if:

• you're a cross-institutional student from another university and you are approved to enrol as a Commonwealth Supported student at UQ,
• you're a current UQ Commonwealth Supported student and you want to change your existing method of payment,
• you're commencing in a Commonwealth Supported Place in a new program in Summer Semester, or
• you have become eligible for a HECS-HELP loan for the first time in Summer Semester.

Full fee paying students

Full fee-paying students include:

• international students
• non-award students
• most domestic postgraduate students
• some domestic undergraduate students (e.g. current UQ students who have recently gained permanent residency and do not have a Commonwealth Supported Place).

Domestic fee-paying students may be eligible to defer payment of their tuition fees through FEE-HELP.
