3. Registration

From 28 October, you can register your attendance through GFP Events.  

Attending a graduation ceremony often involves a number of different costs. UQ is consolidating some of these costs into a single package.

The package will ensure graduands comply with UQ’s academic dress policy and will facilitate a smooth registration process on the day.

If you register: 

  • before midday 29 November, the cost of attending your graduation is $100
  • after midday 29 November, you will be charged a $50 late fee on top of your $100 attendance fee. 

This cost includes:

  • academic dress hire, including a trencher or bonnet (graduation cap) for you to keep
  • tickets for 2 guests to attend the ceremony
  • a beverage of your choice
  • a digital download of your stage photo
  • a cylinder memento 

There is no discount for providing your own academic dress.

You must pay all fees owed to the University before you can graduate.

Register and pay for your graduation

  1. Login to the GFP Events Registration Portal: select UQ and enter your Student ID. 
  2. Confirm your attendance: click ‘Yes, I will be attending the ceremony!’
  3. Order your academic dress: the correct academic dress for the award you are graduating from will be displayed in the GFP portal. You will receive a complimentary trencher or bonnet (graduation cap). Using regalia hired from GFP will ensure you meet UQ’s academic dress requirements.
  4. Order your 2 guest tickets: You will be able to purchase additional tickets closer to the ceremony date.
  5. Complete the 'more information' section: include details like how to say your name phonetically, your college (if applicable) and any accessibility requirements. 

Writing your name phonetically

Providing the pronunciation of your name in GFP Events will help the presenter say your name correctly as you cross the stage.

Phonetic pronunciation is saying your name as it sounds, not as it is written, for example:

  • Gao Zhisheng (Gah-oh Jih-shuhng)
  • Divya Kuthrapali (Dhiv-ya Ku-thruh-Paa-lee)
  • Vladimir Borisov  (vlah-Dee-meer baw-Ree-sawf)
  • Amanda Liley (Uh-man-dah Ligh-le)

Online pronunciation websites may help you find the phonetic pronunciation of your name.

Basic guidelines include:

  • separating syllables with dashes
  • capitalising syllables that are emphasised when pronouncing your name
  • including all letter sounds that might help a person say your name, even if those sounds aren't in the actual spelling of your name.

Defer your graduation ceremony 

If you wish to defer your attendance at a graduation ceremony until the next graduation period, please email graduations@enquire.uq.edu.au with your name, student ID and stating you wish to defer your attendance. Your award will still be conferred at the December 2024 ceremony and your documents will be mailed.

You will receive confirmation of your request to defer your ceremony by the end of December 2024. This is not required if you are articulating to another program and expecting to graduate with the new program.

Cancel your registration

If you are unable to graduate or attend your ceremony, you might be able to request a refund.  

You will automatically receive a full refund if you:

  • are ineligible to graduate after finalisation of grades.

You can request a partial refund of $75 if you:

  • cancel your attendance prior to the registration due date (28 October).

There's no refund if you:

  • are eligible to graduate and cancel after the registration due date (28 October).
