5. Late enrolment

You will be charged a late fee if you:

  • do not complete your enrolment on time,
  • do not add all of your courses on time, or
  • do not pay your fees on time.

The late fee amount will depend on how late you are.

There is no charge for late enrolment in Summer Semester before Census Date.

Late enrolment

You must enrol in at least one course by the enrolment due date.

A $50 late fee applies if you enrol in courses after the due date, but before Census Date.

Postgraduate coursework students are exempt from this fee in their first semester (or enrolment period).

Late addition of courses

As long as you have enrolled in at least one course by the enrolment due date, you can continue adding more courses until the final date for addition of courses or alteration of enrolment.

A $50 late fee applies if you want to add or substitute courses after this date, but before Census Date.

To add a course:

  1. Complete the Late Addition of Courses form (PDF).
  2. Get approval from the Associate Dean (Academic) in your faculty
  3. Submit the form to a Student Centre

You will receive an email to your student account when your enrolment is complete.

Late payment of fees charge

A $100 late penalty applies if your course fees are not paid by the fees due date.

If you are given permission to enrol or add courses after the fees due date, you will have two days to pay your fees. The $100 late penalty applies after two days.

For standard semesters and trimesters, the fees due date is listed on the Academic Calendar.

The important dates table lists the fees due date for non-standard teaching periods and medical rotations.

Can I enrol after Census Date?

The University does not allow students to enrol or add courses after Census Date, unless there are extraordinary and exceptional circumstances.

If we approve late course enrolment after Census Date, you must pay all fees in full.

  • I'm a Commonwealth Supported student (i.e. a student eligible for HECS-HELP).
You must pay full fees for a course (or courses) before you are allowed to enrol. Under the Higher Education Support Act (2003) the University is not permitted to enrol a Commonwealth Supported student after Census Date. The alternative is to enrol you as a full-fee-paying student. Please note that because you are enrolling after Census Date you are also not eligible for FEE-HELP.
  • I pay full tuition fees (i.e. international students, most postgraduate coursework students).
You must pay all relevant tuition fees for the course (or courses) plus an administrative charge of $200 before you are allowed to enrol.

To apply to enrol or add courses after Census Date:

  1. Complete the Late Addition of Courses form (PDF).
  2. Get approval from the Associate Dean (Academic) in your faculty
  3. Submit the form to your faculty.

You must have the support of your faculty to enrol or add a course after Census Date. Late applications are assessed by the Academic Registrar.
