Completing a Progression Improvement Plan can help you identify why you aren't meeting the required levels of academic progress and the steps you can take to get back on track.

See the Progression Alerts and Interventions page for more information on receiving a Progression Intervention notice, understanding the Academic Progression Procedure, and how your student visa may be impacted.

4. Submitting your Progression Improvement Plan

Submit a Progression Improvement Plan to continue your enrolment after receiving a Progression Intervention Notice, or to return to your studies following an exclusion or interruption.

How to submit

After receiving a Progression Intervention Notice

  1. Go to your my.UQ Dashboard
  2. Navigate to My Requests
  3. Open your active Progression Improvement Plan case
  4. Submit your application by the due date (20 business days from the date you received your Progression Intervention Notice).

Late submissions: If you don't submit your PIP by the due date, your ongoing enrolment at UQ may be cancelled. Late applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and you'll need to provide evidence of exceptional circumstances that prevented you from submitting your PIP on time.

To return to your studies following an exclusion or interruption

You'll be required to submit a Progression Improvement Plan before:

  • returning from an exclusion due to a previous Progression Intervention or Show Cause notice
  • returning from a temporary break (interruption of studies)
  • returning after your enrolment was cancelled due to non-submission of a previous PIP.

Your PIP should reflect all the actions you have taken to date to ensure success in your studies. Rather than submitting immediately, we recommend waiting until the semester you plan to return is approaching.

  1. Go to your my.UQ Dashboard
  2. Navigate to My Requests
  3. Create a new request
  4. Open your active Progression Improvement Plan case
  5. Submit your application by 5 January to return in Semester 1, or 30 June to return in Semester 2.

If you can't access My Requests in my.UQ, you must contact IT Support to get My Requests enabled. This usually takes one business day.

You'll be notified of progress via your UQ student email account, so please check your email regularly.

What to expect after submitting

After you submit your Progression Improvement Plan, it will be sent to your faculty for consideration.

It may take up to 4 weeks for the faculty to process your submission and come to a decision. In the meantime, we encourage you to continue seeking academic advice and making use of UQ support services.

You can maintain provisional enrolment in courses you are eligible for until an outcome is reached. This includes adding courses, paying all fees and charges, attending required learning activities, and undertaking all assessments.

You may be invited to attend an interview with your faculty or asked to provide additional information regarding your PIP submission. This is an opportunity for your faculty to better understand your academic performance. If you're required to attend an interview or provide more information, you'll be notified via your student email.
