Matlab is a technical computing platform that integrates computation, visualisation and programming in an environment where problems and solutions are displayed in mathematical notation. It is available for Microsoft Windows, macOS and Linux.

Accessing Matlab

If you are a UQ staff member or enrolled student, you can access Matlab on UQ-owned computers free-of-charge. Some Matlab toolboxes are operating system-specific.

  • Staff: you can install Matlab on UQ-owned computers managed by ITS using the Microsoft Software Center. For other UQ-owned computers, contact your local IT support team.
  • Students: Matlab is installed on computers in Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology (EAIT) and Faculty of Science computer labs. It is not available on Library computers.

Conditions of use

Matlab can be used at UQ for teaching and non-commercial purposes in Australia. Overseas use is only allowed for conferences and short-term fieldwork.

UQ has a Total Academic Headcount - Campus Option licence that is renewed annually on 1 January. You will need to renew expired home use licences every year.
