Matlab
Matlab is available for Microsoft Windows, macOS and Linux.
Due to COVID-19 remote studying arrangements, students may be eligible to access this software for free. Visit free student software for personal use for more details.
Accessing Matlab
If you are a UQ staff member or enrolled student, you can access Matlab on UQ-owned computers free-of-charge.
- Staff: you can install Matlab on UQ-owned computers managed by ITS using the Microsoft Software Center. For other UQ-owned computers, contact your local IT support team.
- Students: Matlab is installed on computers in Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology (EAIT) and Faculty of Science computer labs. It is not available on Library computers.
Some Matlab toolboxes are operating system-specific.
Home use
Download the latest version of Matlab from UQ Software Licensing.
- Staff: you can use Matlab on your personal computer (staff login required) using a product key. You will need to use VPN to connect to the central licence server.
- Students: you can use Matlab on up to two personal computers using the Matlab Student Total Academic Headcount (TAH) licence. Create a Mathworks account and install Matlab (UQ login required).
Conditions of use
Matlab can be used at UQ for teaching and non-commercial purposes in Australia. Overseas use is only allowed for conferences and short-term fieldwork.
UQ has a Total Academic Headcount - Campus Option licence that is renewed annually on 1 January. You will need to renew expired home use licences every year.
