BioRender is an online app used to create, edit, and collaborate on scientific diagrams and illustrations. It offers a large library of icons to use in the creation of scientific posters, presentations, and publications.

Accessing BioRender

Two licensing options are available. In most cases, a free educational licence will be suitable for most UQ staff and students.

The free educational licence is available to all UQ staff and students. To obtain a licence, visit the BioRender website, then select the 'Sign Up' option and fill in your details.

A limited number of premium subscription licences are available for publication and teaching purposes only. If any HDR students require access to a premium licence, supervisor approval is required. Once the student has obtained the necessary approval, please submit an IT request for a premium licence with a copy of the supervisor’s email authorisation attached.

The Frazer Institute have their own departmental licence for BioRender. This licence is only available for Frazer Institute staff and students. For further information, please contact the Frazer Institute.

Premium licence administration

Due to the limited number of premium licences available, the accounts of premium licence holders will be deactivated if their account has not been accessed for a period of six months. No user data is affected in this process. Deactivated users will retain access to the BioRender portal.

If your premium account has been deactivated and you require access again, please submit an IT request to request reactivation.
