1. What to know first

Entry requirements

In order to change or add a program, you must satisfy the new program’s entry requirements (i.e. entry scores, subject prerequisites, English proficiency, etc.)

Entry requirements for each UQ program are listed in the program and course catalogue.

If you need to improve your entry score, or if you need to complete additional study to meet a program's prerequisites, information is available about upgrading.

Please note that admission into programs is competitive – satisfying minimum entry requirements does not guarantee admission.

Commencement semester

If you’re applying to change or add a program for Semester 2, you must ensure the new program has a Semester 2 intake.

You can check whether a program commences in Semester 1 or in Semester 2, or in both semesters, in the program and course catalogue.

For some program changes in Semester 2 (e.g. for some dual programs), you may be able to apply for a non-standard program change.

How do I change or add a program?

There are different procedures for changing programs, depending on:

  • what type of student you are (e.g. undergraduate, postgraduate, domestic, international),
  • which new program you want to study, and
  • whether you want to commence a new program in Semester 1 or Semester 2.

Procedures are outlined in the different sections on this page.

You must apply to change or add a program by the relevant due date.

  • Consult the QTAC website for relevant due dates, if you’re applying to QTAC.
  • Consult the Academic Calendar for opening and closing dates for program change requests, if you're applying through mySI-net.

Questions and further information

  • International students must contact an advisor in their faculty before making changes to their program. An advisor can also answer any questions you might have.
  • Domestic undergraduate students should contact UQ Admissions with any questions, or for advice about their options.
  • Domestic postgraduate students should contact an advisor in their faculty or school with any questions, or for further information about their options.
  • Higher Degree by Research students should contact the Graduate School for more information. Email: candidature@gradschool.uq.edu.au.
