Changing programs
1. What to know first
It's possible to switch between UQ programs. Here's what you need to know:
Entry requirements
In order to change or add a program, you must satisfy the new program’s entry requirements (i.e. entry scores, subject prerequisites, English proficiency, etc.)
Search for your program to check entry requirements.
If you need to improve your entry score, or if you need to complete additional study to meet a program's prerequisites, information is available about tertiary admissions pathways.
Please note that admission into programs is competitive – satisfying minimum entry requirements does not guarantee admission.
For advice about entry requirements:
- domestic students – email admissions@uq.edu.au
- international students – send an enquiry
Commencement semester
If you’re applying to change or add a program for Semester 2, you must ensure the new program has a Semester 2 intake.
Search for your program to check whether it commences in Semester 1 or Semester 2, or in both semesters.
Fees
When you change your program, the fees may increase even if you're in the same field of study, so it’s important to consider the fee implications.
International coursework students
Your tuition fees are program-based, which means all courses within your program are charged at the same rate for a given academic year. Changing programs may cause an increase in your fees.
See the fee schedules or contact Student Fees for further advice at fees@uq.edu.au or (07) 3365 2328.
Domestic coursework students
If you're in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), you pay a 'student contribution amount'. If you change your program, under the Australian Government’s Job-ready Graduates Package, you'll be considered a commencing student and your fees may be higher. See the fee schedules for more information.
If you're in a full-fee paying place, your fees will not be affected by the Job-ready Graduates Package. However, changing programs may still cause an increase in your fees. See the fee schedules for more information.
Contact Student Fees for further advice at fees@uq.edu.au or (07) 3365 2328.
How do I change or add a program?
There are different procedures for changing programs, depending on:
- what type of student you are (e.g. undergraduate, postgraduate, domestic, international)
- which new program you want to study, and
- whether you want to commence a new program in Semester 1 or Semester 2.
The following sections outline the procedures to follow, depending on your situation.
