I’m returning after an interruption
Domestic coursework students
- If your program has continuous enrolment requirements, if it has been discontinued or if it is a 1 year honours program, you will be able to add courses after the period of interruption has concluded. If you are returning in the semester when you had planned to resume your studies, you will need to follow the instructions on how to enrol in courses.
- You can also apply to return early.
- If your program does not have continuous enrolment requirements and it has not been discontinued, you can enrol in courses at any time.
Contact your faculty or visit Student Central if you have any questions about resuming your studies.
Not sure what faculty you're in? Visit the Programs and Courses website to check the faculty associated with each program.
How to apply to resume your studies early
If you would like to return from an interruption early, please submit a request to resume your studies through my.UQ.
Staff will check your academic record against the program requirements to ensure you are still eligible for a place in your program.
- If you have retained your place, you must ensure you re-enrol by the due date.
- If you have not retained your place, you may need to re-apply.
Resuming your studies after a leave of absence
If you did not need to apply for an interruption then you are able to resume your studies at any time within 2 years (24 months) of non-enrolment of courses.
In the 6 months following the 2 years of non-enrolment you will need to re-enrol and maintain enrolment in courses after the census date or your enrolment will be suspended.

If you've previously been approved for an interruption, refer to the instructions sent to your UQ student email.

- If your CoE has already ended, you will need to apply for a new CoE to return to study. Submit an online Application to Extend Studies and for New CoE form (login required).
- If you're not sure if your CoE is still active, contact Student Central.

Apply as though you were a new student. Each request for re-admission is considered on its own merits.
You may not be able to work with the same supervisors, or work on the same research topic, or receive credit for any work you have completed.
If your application is made within 2 years of withdrawing and a major portion of your thesis has already been completed, we may allow you to complete your program in a shorter time.
