Accessing ArcGIS

ArcGIS is available free-of-charge on UQ-owned computers for UQ staff and students.

You can use the Microsoft Software Center to install the application on ITS managed UQ computers. Contact your local IT support team or submit an IT request to install ArcGIS on other UQ-owned computers.

Home use

  • Staff: you can use ArcGIS on one privately owned computer at your primary residence only for the purpose of “learning, becoming proficient with and developing curricula or research expertise around the programs.” For field work, you must use a UQ-owned system for UQ purposes only.
  • Students: you can use ArcGIS on your own private computer for no charge for study purposes for a subject you are enrolled in.

Both staff and students can access ArcGIS for home use at UQ Software Licensing. Students will receive an authorisation code to use the software for 12 months.

The installation for home use contains:

  • ArcInfo
  • 3D Analyst
  • Data Interoperability
  • Geostatistical Analyst
  • Network Analyst
  • Publisher
  • Schematics
  • Spatial Analyst
  • Tracking Analyst
  • ArcScan
  • Maplex.

Conditions of use

ArcGIS can be used at UQ for academic and research purposes only. The Esri ArcGIS site licence is centrally funded for UQ organisational units, staff and students for use at UQ sites and on UQ-owned equipment. The licence is renewed annually on 1 August.

Use of ArcGIS outside Australia is restricted. Submit an IT request to discuss use outside Australia.

You can download and read the ESRI Licence Terms and Conditions (PDF, 414KB) (UQ login required).
