Recover your account independently

UQ’s account recovery service allows staff and students to securely and conveniently reset their UQ account password or access the MFA Management portal without needing to contact IT support.

Account recovery details can be set in the My profile section of my.UQ.

  1. Log into my.UQ.

  2. Go to the 'My profile' section.

  3. Review your personal email, mobile number, and security questions.

Fields to complete

Personal email:This is a mandatory field for account recovery. Please use a personal email address, not a UQ email address.

Mobile number: This field is optional though is often the most convenient way to receive a verification code. International mobile numbers are accepted. Make sure to include the country code when entering your number (eg. US & Canada: +1, United Kingdom: +44, India: +91, China: +86).

Security questions: 3 security questions are required on the account. Questions can be selected from a drop-down list. It is important to select questions that are meaningful to you and not easily guessed by others. Setting security questions also allows you to log in to the MFA Management portal to generate a temporary MFA passcode if you no longer have access to your MFA device, or register another device for MFA if you have one available.

If you can't recover your account via self-service

You can seek assistance regarding IT services, including recovering suspended accounts, by contacting AskUs (students) or Service Desk (staff).

Your personal information may be used to contact you in situations where we can’t access or use your UQ details. Contact will be made with the greatest discretion.

For example, if:

  • your UQ account has been suspended
  • your UQ contact details are missing.

Authorised UQ staff who might contact you include:

  • Service Desk
  • Cyber Security Operations Centre
  • other teams.

If you are unsure if the person contacting you is legitimatly a UQ staff member, do not respond and contact AskUs (students) or Service Desk (staff).
