6. External courses

At UQ, the words "in-person" and "external" refer to types of attendance at the University.

  • An in-person course may incorporate some aspects of online delivery (e.g. online lectures, options for online tutorials, online assessment) but requires students to engage in in-person learning or assessment at a UQ campus or other location at some point.
  • External courses are delivered entirely online, and students must participate online for all learning and assessment.

Some courses are offered in external mode. Students sometimes enrol in a mixture of in-person and external courses for convenience.

You can find external courses in the program and course catalogue:

  1. Search for and click on your program page
  2. Click 'Courses and requirements'
  3. Select and click individual courses. The 'Mode' column shows if a course is offered externally.

See where 'Mode' is listed on course pages

Due dates, policies and procedures are the same for external students as for in-person students.

Most material for external students is distributed online through Blackboard. In some circumstances, material may be distributed through DVD or video.
