Updates to gender categories

From 1 January 2026, the Australian Government are changing the way education providers report on gender to meet Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) standards.

In line with these changes, our gender categories of F-Female, M-Male and ‘X’ (Indeterminate/Intersex/Unspecified) have been replaced with new, more inclusive options that better represent students’ genders:

• F – Woman or Female
• M – Man or Male
• N – Non-binary
• D – Different term
• P – Prefer not to answer
