UQ Union Queer Collective
The UQ Union Queer Collective (UQUQC) is the LGBTQIA+ and queer student and alumni group at The University of Queensland.
It’s run by queer students for queer students, to provide community, social events, mutual aid, advocacy and activism, and support.

Welcoming spaces
We offer welcoming and safe spaces for you to relax on campus.
Carden Queer Room – St Lucia
The dedicated community hub on the St Lucia campus is known as the Carden Queer Room and is used by LGBTQIA+ students only (allies are welcome as guests). The room is used as a safe and welcoming space for study, socialising and a place to wear gender affirming clothing.
Rainbow Room – Gatton
The dedicated community hub at Gatton campus is known as the Rainbow Room and is used by LGBTQIA+ students only (allies are welcome as guests).
The Rainbow Room is on the ground floor of Morrison Hall at Gatton.
Trans and Gender Diverse Network
This network is a trans-led initiative that provides opportunities for networking and community-building for all transgender, non-binary and gender-diverse students and staff at UQ.

Access wellbeing support
If you need support, there are a number of options available to you.
Support is available through:
- Student Support and Wellbeing Services
- UQ Safer Communities for sexual misconduct, bullying, harassment, and discrimination support
- the UQ Union
- the UQ Union Queer Collective.
Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidate support
If you’re a HDR candidate, you can access the support via the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) (staff login required) in addition to the above support options.
Affirm your gender and identity
As a student at UQ, you can affirm your gender and identity by updating your name, pronouns, title and/or gender in student and academic records.

A scholarship supporting a LGBTQIA+ student experiencing financial hardship.
UQ LGBTQIA+ Scholarship
A scholarship supporting a LGBTQIA+ student.
UQ Union Queer Collective (UQUQC) Gender Affirmation Bursary
The UQUQC Gender Affirmation Bursary helps UQ students facing financial hardship with a small one-off payment to cover the expenses of gender affirming items, products, services and care.
