Become a Young ChangeMakers Program mentor
Support the next generation of changemakers by becoming a Young ChangeMakers mentor.
Young ChangeMakers is a 4-day program that brings together Year 11 students interested in leadership and innovation. As a mentor, you'll be a role model for these students while building your confidence, leadership and teamwork skills.
This volunteer position helps you build connections at UQ and make a difference in the lives of mentees.

Mentor applications are open from Monday 4 August – Sunday 21 September.
What's involved
As a mentor, you'll:
- supervise mentees during the residential program, including overnight
- ensure mentees' safety and welfare at all times
- act as a friendly, supportive and accessible point of contact for mentees
- be prompt and organised in all aspects of the role, including before and after the program.
Time commitment
You'll need to be available for:
- the full program (Sunday 30 November – Wednesday 3 December 2025)
- training before camp (Tuesday 25 November – Wednesday 26 November 2025)
- a reunion during Open Day in 2026.
Eligibility
To be a mentor, you must:
- have attended high school (senior years) in Australia
- be enrolled in a Bachelor's program at UQ
- have a minimum GPA of 5.
Honours or Doctor of Medicine students will also be considered if your undergraduate degree was also completed at UQ.
We also select mentors based on:
- approachability
- enthusiasm
- demonstrated leadership skills.

Volunteering as a mentor for the program can contribute toward the UQ Employability Award. The award recognises personal and professional development beyond your academic studies.
You'll also:
- develop leadership, communication and organisational skills
- build connections with other mentors, mentees and UQ staff
- make a difference in the lives of young people and support them in their aspirations.

You'll be notified by Wednesday 24 September if you're invited to the group interview.
The group interview will be Wednesday 8 October on campus.
