Flu vaccinations
Registrations are now open for the 2026 UQ flu vaccination program.
Bookings are now open for the 2026 UQ flu vaccination program, which will run from Monday 20 April until Friday 1 May, with limited appointments still available at St Lucia, Herston and Dutton Park.
Free flu vaccinations are available to all UQ students and staff.
About the flu and the vaccine
Influenza (the flu) is a highly infectious viral illness that is more serious than the common cold. Symptoms can be severe and last up to 10 days. For some people, the flu can cause serious complications requiring hospitalisation.
A yearly flu vaccination is recommended for anyone who wants to reduce their risk of getting the flu. The vaccine is updated each year to protect against the flu strains most likely to circulate in the Southern Hemisphere.
Who is eligible?
In 2026, the UQ vaccine program will cover:
- all UQ students, including higher degree by research students
- all UQ staff, including casual and fixed-term staff
- staff of UQ controlled entities and other affiliates (such as UQ Sport and residential colleges).
You will need to present your UQ staff or student ID card at your appointment.
Widening the program to include students and UQ affiliates has been made possible under the Queensland Government’s commitment to provide free flu vaccinations to residents for the 2026 flu season.
The Australian Government provides an enhanced flu vaccine for Australians aged 65 and over. If you are 65 or over, you can receive this free enhanced vaccine when you book through the UQ flu vaccination program.
Students under 18 years
The UQ flu vaccination program can only vaccinate adults aged 18 and over. If you’re under 18, speak to your GP, as they may be able to offer you the flu vaccination (depending on your age and location). Appointments can also be made at UQ Health Care.

Flu vaccinations will be available at the following locations:

Book your flu vaccine
As flu vaccinations are reported to the Australian Immunisation Register, you will need your Medicare card details, if you have one, when you book. You can check your Medicare details via MyGov, or by calling Medicare on 132 011.
If you do not have a Medicare card, you are still eligible for a free flu vaccination. To receive a record of your flu vaccination, without Medicare, you will need an Individual Health Identifier.
Please note, you will also need to present your UQ staff or student ID card at your appointment.
Evidence of flu vaccinations
Once you have received your vaccine, it will appear on your immunisation history statement via myGov. You can also access evidence of your vaccination by calling Medicare on 132 011, even if you don’t have a Medicare number.
