Prerequisites

An approved Bachelor degree with a GPA of at least 4.50 on a 7 point scale. An approved degree is a Bachelor degree in the discipline of economics, business or commerce; or a Bachelor degree containing at least four courses in any three of the following areas: microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics and mathematics; or the graduate certificate in economics from this university with a GPA of 4.5.

What you can do with a Master of Economics

Careers

Graduates can expect to find work in government agencies, at the local, state and federal level. They may also find employment in the private sector, including banks, consultancy companies, utilities, international agencies, insurance companies and the finance industry.

Graduates may be eligible for entry to a Master of Philosophy program or, depending on the extent of the research courses completed within the Master degree program and grades achieved, a Doctor of Philosophy program.

Professional memberships

Graduates may be eligible for membership with the following organisations:

Program rules for the Master of Economics

To complete the Master of Economics

To fulfil the requirements of the Master of Economics, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.

A student is required to obtain 24 units from the MEcon (24 units) List comprising -

  • 14 units from Part A; and
  • 10 units from Part B.

If exemptions apply for Part A courses, students are to undertake electives from Part B. With Head of School approval, a student may include 2 units for a level 7 course towards Part B. Refer to the MEcon (24 units) rules for further information.
