Course description
The course is a 9 day study tour held in the mid semester 2 break. It is designed to examine a range of issues relating to environmental management in a vulnerable region. Themes explored during the tour include issues such as: Cultural heritage, protected area and endangered species management; Tourism, visitor management and environmental issues; Environmental impacts of industry, sustainability, and business development; Coastal development and planning; Community capacity building; and Climate vulnerability and sustainable growth. At the conclusion of the course students will have a greater appreciation of the social, cultural, legal, economic, political and ecological factors associated with sustainable development. Additional fees are payable. In the event that students complete the fieldwork and then subsequently withdraw from this course without financial liability, the School reserves the right to charge full cost recovery for this fieldtrip.
