Our Student Advisers assist students with a disability, mental health or medical condition, illness, injury or exceptional circumstances.

Support is also available for students with significant responsibilities for caring for a person with a condition that impacts on their study.

If a condition or circumstance is impacting your ability to study, make an appointment with an adviser to create a plan and discuss the support available to you. Please bring any existing medical documentation that you already have available to the appointment.

Student Access Plan

Your adviser can help you put together a Student Access Plan (SAP). This is a communication tool between you and your course coordinators.

A SAP will include discussion around in-class participation, activities and assessments as well as recommendations for reasonable adjustments in your courses to accommodate the impact of your condition or circumstance.

Reasonable adjustments are made on a case-by-case basis, and may include:

  • extension to assignments
  • occasional absences
  • accessible formatting.

To develop a SAP, you'll need to bring relevant medical or specialist documentation (DOCX, 37.6 KB) to your appointment. This documentation should describe your disability or condition and how it affects your studies.

You may also bring any other documentation you have to your appointment.

Exam adjustments

If you have a condition or circumstance that impacts on your exams, you may be eligible for exam adjustments.

These adjustments can include applying for alternative exam arrangements. See the Academic Adjustments Policy for more information.

To organise exam adjustments, you'll need to bring relevant documentation to your appointment (DOCX, 37.6 KB).

Note that Diversity, Disability and Inclusion Advisers are not able to help with requests to defer exams. See Deferring an exam on the MyUQ website for more information.

Specialised equipment

Specialised equipment is available on campus for those who require assistance. This includes:

  • a small number of motorised scooters
  • computer workstations with assistive software.

If you require assistance with mobility, specialised equipment or accessing course content, your adviser will discuss the options available to you during your appointment.

The UQ Library can also provide accessible formats, computer facilities, assistive technology rooms and lockers for students with a disability.

Alternative formatting and study resources

If you need help with note taking, require transcriptions of lecture recordings, or need digitised readings due to a condition or circumstance, your adviser will discuss the services available to you during your appointment.
