Queensland Health pre-placement requirements
All students placed in a Queensland Health facility, regardless of discipline, will need to complete the following tasks and provide evidence of completion before placement commencement:
- Complete the iLearn training modules (complete these modules before completing the student orientation checklist).
- Sign and return the Queensland Health Student Orientation Checklist (this requires immunisation history as well as completed iLearn tasks).
- Complete a Student Deed Poll.
If you are enrolled in an allied health discipline, in addition to the items above, you will also need to complete additional training and provide evidence of completion before your placement commences:

iLearn modules
Application time: It can take up to 3 days for your iLearn account to be activated. The mandatory training modules take at least 2 hours to complete.

Step 1: Register for an iLearn account
If you don't have an iLearn account yet, you will need to register for one.
Under account types, select "student on clinical placement".

Step 2: Complete the training modules
Complete the following mandatory training modules as listed as legislative requirement in Attachment One of the Queensland Health Human Resources Policy Mandatory Training G6 (QH-POL-183):

The following courses may not be available through iLearn and must be completed as per your local area on commencement of your placement:
- General Evacuation Instructions (GEI) Instructions in the location of the fire safety reference points for the building and the procedures for safe evacuation in the event of a fire or hazardous materials emergency.
- Infection Prevention and Control Applicable only to employees working in a clinical setting, laboratories or who are at risk of exposure to infectious material as determined by their local area
TIP: If you search the course using "Core Mandatory Training" in iLearn, the first three of the above modules will be automatically grouped together.
These are the minimum modules required to undertake clinical placements in a Queensland Health facility. Some Hospital and Health Services may require you to complete additional modules that are site or profession specific.
We strongly advise students to check InPlace allocation information upon placement allocation to any Queensland Health Hospital and Health Service (HHS) to ensure that you are aware of all your pre-placement requirements.

Step 4: Upload your transcript
Upload the transcript to the attribute 'UQ-QH Evidence of iLearn module completion' in InPlace.
Make yourself aware of Queensland Health policies and guidelines listed under "part 2" on the Queensland Health "Preparing for clinical placement" page.
Students who complete greater than 90 days placement in a calendar year
If you complete multiple placements with Queensland Health in a calendar year and the total of all placements combined exceeds 90 days, you will be required to complete the following additional mandatory training modules:

Student orientation checklist
Step 1: Complete the checklist
Complete the Queensland Health Student Orientation Checklist. You must keep a copy of your completed checklist.
Please note: Not all students attending placement at a QLD Health facility need to complete an NDIS worker screening check. For information about who needs an NDIS worker screening check (also known as a Disability Worker Screening Check or Yellow Card) and how to apply, please refer to the notes page on the Student Orientation Checklist.

Step 2: Upload your completed checklist
Upload your completed Orientation Checklist to InPlace as evidence of completion.
For documents with multiple pages, please ensure all pages are uploaded (including reverse sides as applicable) as a single document.
Student deed poll
A Student Deed Poll can only be completed once you have a confirmed Queensland Health placement.
A new Student Deed Poll is required for each new placement.
Step 1: Complete the Student deed poll
Read, understand and sign the Student Deed Poll (PDF, 422 KB).
On page 1:
- Insert your Student Name
- Select the Hospital or Health Service relevant to your placement allocation from the dropdown box
- Insert The University of Queensland and ABN 63 942 912 684.
Step 2: Supply as a hard copy
You must have a paper copy of this document (all 8 pages) to provide to your placement supervisor on the first day of placement. You must retain a copy of this document for the duration of the calendar year. Students unable to produce a completed deed poll when requested will not be permitted to remain on placement.
You do not need to upload this document to InPlace.
If your placement allocation changes, affecting your HHS location, you will need to complete a new Student deed poll.
Record of allied health student training
Application time: It can take up to 3 days for your iLearn account to be approved before you can commence this task.
Cost: $0
All allied health students are required to complete the iLearn Modules as listed above as well as the additional modules listed below, regardless of year level, length of placement or extent of contact with patients.
You are an allied health student if you are enrolled in the following disciplines:
- audiology
- clinical exercise physiology
- exercise and sports science
- mental health (art therapy)
- nutrition and dietetics
- occupational therapy
- pharmacy
- physiotherapy
- psychology
- social work
- speech pathology.
Step 1: Complete the modules
Access and complete the Allied Health Clinical Placement Training (iLearn) module. Lesson topics include:
- Child abuse and neglect
- Clinical Handover
- Comprehensive care
- Consumer engagement
- Clincial documentation
- Informed consent
- Patient identification and procedure matching
- Patient rights
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Safe, secure and supportive workplaces - a guide for allied health students
- The high-risk patient
Renewal of the Child abuse and neglect lesson is to be completed every 12 months. This can be completed within the Allied Health Clinical Placement Training module, or you can review the Queensland Health resources.

Step 2: Record your completed training
Complete the Record of allied health student training (PDF).
Present your completed and dated record to the clinical educator (or other nominated contact where a clinical educator is not available) at the commencement of your placement. Keep a copy of this record to present on request.
Certificates must be submitted to InPlace for verification. Please refer to National Hand Hygiene Initiative (NHHI) Modules for instructions on certificate submission.

Requirements specific to hospitals and health services
A reminder that some HHSs may, at times, require additional orientation modules, mostly reflecting the risks and challenges locally.
We strongly advise students to check InPlace allocation information upon allocation to any placement to ensure that you are aware of all your pre-placement requirements. Beyond the minimum orientation requirements that are necessary through legislation have been described above.
