HDR Researcher Development Award

Activities eligible for the award include:

• Registration or fees for conferences, specialised workshops, or skills development. Students are encouraged to present their work at conferences they attend or institutions they visit.
• Flights, including domestic and international
• Accommodation
• Local transport costs, including to/from airports
• Functions such as a conference dinner or site visits; but not optional leisure activities
• Abstract submission fees
• Poster printing costs
• Visa processing costs, related to the approved travel.
• Thesis editing
   

Activities not eligible for the award include:

• Direct project costs
• Travel for fieldwork or data collection
• Software, datasets, and data analysis
• Publication costs (article processing charges)
• Any costs associated with private travel or activities. 
   

To apply for the award:

1. Complete the HDR Researcher Development Award request

Please be careful to provide correct student number (8-digit number without an ‘s’ in front), correct email address, ensure your EFT details are correct, and that budget breakdowns for total sum and amount requesting from the HDR RDA totals to the correct sum.

Please note that request for funds from the faculty (this award) may be different from your total budget depending on circumstances. Incorrect information requiring amendments to forms will accrue additional time for review and payment.

You can apply for an HDR Researcher Development Award at any time but should apply in advance if your plans depend on this Faculty funding. Allow at least 4 weeks for review and payment.

Once approved, you will be awarded the funds and make all arrangements directly.

HDR students are not required to use UQ’s travel providers.
 

Your Principal Advisor (PA) may approve suitable alternative development activity that meets the intention of this HDR support, under consultation with their Director HDR if unsure.

If you can't use the funds for suitable research development, the PA must advise the Faculty so that we can retrieve the unused award from the student.

Approval of the HDR Researcher Development Award is for the award of funds only. HDR travel funded under this Award is considered UQ travel and you  must seek UQ approval to travel from the Head/Director of your school or centre, prior to undertaking the travel.

HDR students are not subject to UQ Staff Dual Purpose Travel policy, but the funds requested through this award should not include any costs attributable to additional private travel, accommodation, or other costs.
