Prerequisites
For Provisional entry (you must be completing Year 12 in the year you apply):
- an adjusted ATAR 95 (or equivalent), and
- Queensland Year 12 (or equivalent) English, and
- a competitive University Clinical Aptitude Test for Australia and New Zealand (UCAT ANZ) aggregate score from the year you apply, and
- attendance at a multiple mini-interview (MMI).
UCAT ANZ scores are used to rank applicants for invitation to interview (MMI).Provisional entry is competitive and is based on your ATAR, UCAT ANZ and interview score. If you receive a provisional entry offer, you'll need to complete your first bachelor degree at UQ before you start the MD program.To progress to the MD, you'll also need:
- to complete your first degree at UQ within the minimum time specified for the program, and
- to achieve a grade point average (GPA) of 5.0 on a 7-point scale in your first degree, and
- to complete the required MD subject prerequisite courses.
For Graduate entry:
- a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) (known as a key degree), and
- a grade point average (GPA) of 5.0 on a 7-point scale in your key degree, and
- a minimum score of 50 in each section of the Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT) or for international applicants 504 in the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), and
- attendance at a multiple mini-interview (MMI), and
- successful completion of the required MD subject prerequisite courses.
You'll also need to complete:
- your key degree within 10 years prior to the year you commence the MD, and
- the GAMSAT within 2 or MCAT within 4 years before the year you commence.

What you can study
Your four year MD journey will begin with the Foundations of medical sciences, clinical practice and the role of the doctor in society in year 1.
Year 2 will be focused upon developing the knowledge and skills required for medical practice, with a focus on the pathophysiology of common conditions. At least half of your learning opportunities will be in clinical settings in year 2.
From year 3 onwards, you will be immersed in various clinical environments both in tertiary and community health settings.
The majority of your learning will happen in the clinical 'workplace' setting, supported by structured teaching and learning activities. Your clinical immersion will culminate in a final 'capstone' transition to practice semester in year four which will be focused on providing you with the opportunity to be an active pre-intern member of a clinical team.

What you can do with a Doctor of Medicine
Careers
A UQ medical degree is primarily to enable graduates to work as registered doctors in clinical practice and, once they have completed the internship year and become fully registered practitioners graduates can proceed to their further training in a wide variety of specialities, for example, internal medicine, surgery, primary care, paediatrics, psychiatry, obstetrics and gynaecology, emergency medicine and critical care.
There are many other careers opportunities open to doctors too many of which can expand and enrich careers later in life. These include careers in public health, medical administration, Defence force medicine or surgery, clinical research and education, international aid, medical education, medical insurance or defence, occupational health and many more.

To complete the Doctor of Medicine
To graduate with a Doctor of Medicine a student must have successfully completed all requirements of the program as certified by the Executive Dean. This includes courses to be taken to complete the program and any other specific conditions of the program including admission, enrolment and progression requirements.
