- 16 units for all Year 2 MD Core Course, and
- 16 units for all Year 3 MD Core Course, and
- 16 units for all Year 4 MD Core Courses

Additional Rules
1. Recognition of prior learning
This program is subject to the following credit limits in conjunction with Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and Procedures :
- Unless you are entering the program under section 3.2 (1.a) Alternative Entry in Schedule 3 of the Admission to Coursework Procedure, no credit will be granted for previous study.
2. Work-integrated learning requirements
Prior to the end of Semester 1 of Year 1, you must demonstrate that you meet the following requirements. You are responsible for ensuring that you hold and maintain these requirements for the duration of the program.
- Blue Card (see Working with Children Policy and Procedures)
- Immunisation (see Vaccinations and Immunisation Policy and Procedures)
- First Aid Certificate
- CPR Certificate
- Queensland Health Deed Poll
- Queensland Health Checklist
- Criminal History Check
- Disability Worker Screening Clearance

3. Continuous enrolment
- You must get approval from the Associate Dean (Academic) to interrupt your studies. You may be required to demonstrate competency/ies before returning to study. If you do not demonstrate competence, you may have to undertake remediation such as repeating courses and/or other requirements. The maximum duration for an interruption is outlined in the Enrolment Procedure.
4. Progression intervention
Academic standing in this program is subject to the following requirements which are in addition to requirements outlined in Academic Progression Procedure .
If you fail:
- any course, you will receive a progression alert to indicate that your academic progress has fallen below an acceptable standard.
- a course after receiving a progression alert earlier in the program, you will receive a progression intervention notice. As part of this notice, you will be required to provide the Associate Dean (Academic) with a progression improvement plan demonstrating why you should be permitted to remain in the program.
- a course after receiving a progression intervention notice earlier in the program or you fail the same course twice you will be refused further enrolment in the program and your program will be discontinued.
You will be refused further enrolment in the program and your enrolment will be discontinued if:
- you fail to submit your progression improvement plan by the due date, or
- you fail to demonstrate compliance with your learning plan and any conditions imposed by the Associate Dean (Academic), or
- you were refused enrolment in a previous year and have not complied with your learning plan and any re-enrolment conditions.
5. Supplementary assessment
You may be granted supplementary assessment for a maximum of 32 units across the whole program. Refer to the Assessment Procedure for more information.
6. Exit awards
- Graduate Diploma in Medical Studies
If you withdraw from the program after completing 16 units, you may apply to be awarded the Graduate Diploma in Medical Studies.
- Master of Medical Studies
If you withdraw from the program after completing 32 units, you may apply to be awarded the Master of Medical Studies.
7. Intercalated MD/PhD programs
To enrol in the intercalated MD/PhD programs, you must:
- be admitted to the MD program at this university; and
- be qualified for admission to the PhD program at this university; and
- satisfy the Dean of the Graduate School and the Associate Dean (Academic) that you are qualified to undertake the intercalated program.
Confirmation of PhD candidature is subject to the requirements of the university.
If you intercalate following completion of Year 2 of the MD program, and then, after up to three full-time years (in exceptional circumstances, four years) of PhD research, you will enter Year 3 of the MD program full-time.
You cannot enrol in both the MD and PhD programs in a single academic year without the prior approval of both the Dean of the Graduate School and the Associate Dean (Academic).
8. Intercalated MD/MPhil programs
To enrol in the intercalated MD/MPhil programs, you must:
- be admitted to the MD program at this university; and
- be qualified for admission to the MPhil program at this university; and
- satisfy the Dean of the Graduate School and the Associate Dean (Academic) that you are qualified to undertake the intercalated program.
Confirmation of MPhil candidature is subject to the requirements of the university.
If you intercalate following completion of Year 2 of the MD program, and then, after up to one full-time year (in exceptional circumstances, two years) of MPhil research, you will enter Year 3 of the MD program full-time.
You cannot enrol in both the MD and MPhil programs in a single academic year without the prior approval of both the Dean of the Graduate School and the Associate Dean (Academic).
