Why study the Bachelors of Mathematics/Commerce?
The dual four-year program provides students with a focused background in commerce, along with the in-depth knowledge of a mathematics degree. In the Commerce component, compulsory courses will build a solid foundation of business skills that you will apply to many decisions and issues in the contemporary business environment. Commerce majors are in accounting, business information systems and finance.
In the Mathematics component you will develop a comprehensive specialised knowledge in one field of mathematics or a high level of sophistication in the applications of mathematics. Modern computation, advances in scientific technology and the increasing production of data have all increased the scope for applications of mathematics well beyond the traditional areas of engineering and the physical sciences, to include fields such as finance, economics, information technology and molecular biology. There is increasing recognition that graduates with high-level quantitative and analytic skills will play a key role at the forefront of new developments in these and other fields.

Program rules for the Bachelors of Mathematics/Commerce
To complete the Bachelors of Mathematics/Commerce
To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelors of Mathematics/Commerce, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain 64 units in total, including:
1. #30 from the BMath course list, comprising:
- #14 from part A;
- #14 from part B or part C or a combination of both; and
- #2 from the BMath course list, or part A or part B of the BSc course list, or courses approved by the associate dean (academic).
AND
2. 34 units from the BCom course list, comprising:
- 22 units of compulsory courses from Group 1 (not including ECON1310); and
- 12 units from one major in Group 2 (6 units must be at level 3); or
- 12 units of elective courses from Group 3 (6 units must be at level 3, and only 2 units may be at level 1).
