Why study Middle Years of Schooling?

The middle years of schooling are increasingly recognised as a crucial stage of education, with significant consequences for ongoing success and participation in future society. Teachers for these year groups require specialist preparation as they teach across key learning areas. This field enables graduates to understand and manage issues related to young adolescents. Graduates will meet the professional requirements necessary for teacher registration in Queensland, and will be able to teach Years 6-9 in both state and independent schools.

Students are prepared to teach the following key learning areas: Arts (including Drama, Dance, Media and Visual Arts); English; Mathematics; Science; Study of Society and Environment; Health and Physical Education; and Technology. Prior studies should support a specialisation in two of these areas.
