Course description

Theory is a core component of the social research enterprise, as it provides the perspective or lenses through which the social world is apprehended and rendered intelligible. There is a long history of sociologists and social theorists grappling with fundamental questions about the nature of society, the configuration and dynamics of power in society, and the character of the present socio-historical moment. This course will introduce students to some of the key theoretical questions in sociology and social theory, and to the responses given to them by prominent theorists and researchers.
