Course description

Investigation of central developments in Western art music from ca.1200 to ca. 1600 including the evolution of polyphonic compositional techniques in sacred and secular genres, the expansion of music notation, the influence of humanistic thought on music, and the impact of the Reformation, printing and Western colonial expansion on musical creativity and dissemination. This course is offered in alternate years.
