Course description

This course will examine health, illness and the role of medicine in a world which is undergoing global change. The key concepts and frameworks used in examining global health issues will be discussed as will the key stakeholders and their roles. This will include WHO, the World Bank, the World Trade Organisation as well as private and philanthropic organisations and other groups that operate as partnerships between the public and private domains. Global health policy, health interventions and development initiatives such as the Sustainable Development Goals will be discussed in the context of developing an understanding of the issues related to translation and implementation "on the ground". The research component of the course will focus on the development of skills in the component processes that make up the conduct of systematic reviews. This will assist students in relating their global health knowledge to a strong evidence base.
