Course description

This course invites you to negotiate the border between literary appreciation (i.e. the pleasures of a good read) and that of scholarly critique. Our novels variously address such contemporary literary themes as history and memory, ethics, globalisation, war and terror, migration, identity. We will consider the role of such long-established literary genres as the confession, the travel narrative and Virgilian pastoral as vehicles for these themes in the twenty-first century. NOTE: Course offering may be cancelled unless a minimum of 20 students enrol.
