Course description
The course will focus on sustainable agriculture, in particular the constraints faced by subsistence farmers in Solomon Islands, and the interface with conservation. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of sustainable agricultural practices and investigate how the intensification of agricultural practices can impact on rural landscapes and the wider environment. Students will be exposed to the farming practices of subsistence communities, investigate the threats posed by invasive pest species to biodiversity and the livelihoods of subsistence farming communities and study the impacts of sustainable harvesting practices on biodiversity.
