Applicants with non-Australian degrees must have their qualifications assessed by the APS.

Applicants must nominate 3 referees and include the Psychology Additional Information form with their on-line application. Shortlisted candidates undertake an interview.
There is a quota of 25 students in the program. Offers will be made on the basis of highest academic rank, referees reports and interview. A limited number of places are available for suitably qualified people on the basis of equity and students identifying as Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander are encouraged to apply.
All successful applicants are required to apply for and gain provisional registration or if applicable, full registration, with the The Psychology Board of Australia, which includes the Board's English Language Proficiency requirements. Students must have registration prior to commencing their study and this must be maintained for the duration of the program.
This program may have inherent requirements that need to be met prior to undertaking placement.

The Doctor of Psychology entails a substantial empirical research thesis as well as advanced professionally-oriented coursework, with opportunities for specialist concentration in areas such as child and family, clinical neuropsychology and older adults. The focus is on gaining a foundation in the scientific bases and practice of clinical psychology. The training in clinical practice employs evidence-based best practice models in mental health settings.

Placement courses
Students are required to complete 1500 hours of supervised practice over six semesters. Every effort is made to place students within a reasonable distance of the UQ campus but they can be expected to travel up to 60 minutes away. Students are generally placed at Ipswich, Brisbane, and the Southeast corner of Queensland. Students are required to have a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) before starting their practice, because all of our students are required to be provisionally registered with the Psychology Board of Australia before starting their studies. There will be no extra costs to the student in addition to course fees except for incidentals such as travel and daily expenses. The Clinical Program Practicum Handbook provides additional information about practicum and school experience requirements and is available from the School of Psychology.

To complete the Doctor of Psychology
To fulfil the requirements of the Doctor of Psychology, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain #64 from the relevant DPsych field of study course list. Refer to the DPsych rules for further information.
