Prerequisites
Entrants to the program will normally have an Honours Degree in engineering or a relevant science discipline such as geology, physics, chemistry or mathematics. In addition to the academic qualifications, relevant industrial experience is taken into consideration. It is anticipated the program will initially commence on 25 February 2013 and will be offered on a part-time basis to domestic students.

Why study the Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering?
The MSc in Petroleum Eng is offered jointly by the University of Queensland and the Institute of Petroleum Engineering (IPE) at Herriot Watt University in the UK. Heriot-Watt Univ is recognised internationally as a leading centre of excellence in petroleum engineering and petroleum geosciences teaching, training and research with strong links to industry worldwide. The program incorporates lectures and project work, encompassing a wide range of petroleum engineering fundamentals, pertinent to the modern petroleum industry and Australia's gas industry. Courses are applied in nature so that a graduate is technically well prepared for, and has a sound knowledge of industry. Project work applies ideas and methods to real field evaluation and development design problems. Given the current world record rates of oil and gas production and Australia's growing gas industry this is an increasingly important global industry and a major source of energy and future employment. Companies face increasing technological and commercial challenges and are increasingly seeking input from well qualified petroleum engineers and geoscientists. The MSc in Petroleum Eng will provide new and exciting opportunities in this area.

Program rules for the Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering
To complete the Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering
To fulfil the requirements of the Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
The program comprises #24 from the MSc (Petroleum Engineering) program list, with a minimum time for completion of 12 months of full time study.
