Prerequisites
To enrol in this 24-unit Masters program, a person must
- hold an approved degree and have completed at least one introductory tertiary course in statistics at undergraduate level (or equivalent); or
- hold a Graduate Diploma in Biostatistics from the university.
Applicants who have completed a four year (i.e. Honours) degree with a major in statistics may be eligible for the #16 unit program.

What you can do with a Master of Biostatistics
Careers
There is an on-going shortage of skilled biostatisticians in Australia and around the world. Graduates in biostatistics have substantial opportunities in the public health sector, medical research and the pharmaceutical industry. This program aims to fill the gap between programs in public health and epidemiology (which train users of biostatistical methods, not professional biostatisticians) and general statistics programs (which do not cater for the diverse and specialised needs in health research).

To complete the Master of Biostatistics
To fulfil the requirements of the Master of Biostatistics, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
A student is required to obtain #24 from the MBiostatistics List comprising
- Students with a prior undergraduate degree with majors in mathematics and/or statistics:
- #12 from Part A comprising
- #2 for PUBH7600
- #10 for other courses from Part A
- #2 from Part B
- #4 from Part C
- #6 from Parts A, B or C.
- Students with a prior undergraduate degree in a health field:
- #16 from Part A comprising
- #6 for PUBH7600*, STAT7601* and STAT7614
- #10 for other courses from Part A
- #2 from Part B
- #4 from Part C
- #2 from Parts A, B or C.
* May be replaced with another Part A course if exemptions are approved.
Course sequencing:
- Almost all courses have pre-requisites, & must be taken into account when selecting courses.
- PUBH7600 & STAT7601 (or equivalents) are pre-requisites for most courses.
- Required courses such as PUBH7600, STAT7601 & STAT7614 are offered every semester. Other courses are offered annually in semester 1 or 2 only.
