An approved degree is a Bachelor degree in the discipline of economics, business or commerce; or a Bachelor degree containing at least four courses in any three of the following areas: microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics and mathematics; or the graduate certificate in economics from this university with a GPA of 4.5.

Why study the Master of Health Economics?
This program provides graduate training in all aspects of health economics, meeting the clear need for comprehensive programs in Australia and internationally. A joint initiative of UQ's School of Economics and School of Population Health, this program is designed for people intending to work in the health sector. The program offers students the opportunity to develop strong analytical skills and is a qualification which may further career opportunities in national and international health agencies.
This highly specialised program provides critical insight into the complex economic issues in health sector administration, and the economic impacts of decisions. Students may take elective courses in analytical techniques, including applied econometrics, public economics, health finance, epidemiology, business and economic decision techniques, benefit-cost analysis, and health and development.

Careers
Graduates can expect to find employment as health economics managers in pharmaceutical companies, health departments, private health facilities or government and development agencies.

Program rules for the Master of Health Economics
To complete the Master of Health Economics
To fulfil the requirements of the Master of Health Economics, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
To complete the program, a student must complete 24 units from the MHEcon course list comprising -
- (a) 16 units from part A of the list; and
- (b) 8 units from part B of the list.
If exemptions apply for Part A courses, students are to undertake electives from Part B. With Head of School approval, a student may include 2 units for a level 7 course towards part B. Refer to the MHEcon (24 units) rules for further information.
