A four-year bachelor degree in education or a relevant area. Applicants with a three-year bachelor degree or equivalent may apply for the #24 unit MEdSt program (three semesters full-time or part-time equivalent).

Students who already hold an appropriate tertiary qualification and are interested in becoming qualified to teach in secondary and middle schools should apply for admission into the Graduate Diploma in Education. Master of Educational Studies

Placement courses

Students studying Guidance and Counselling will be required to complete practicum courses that involve approximately 200 contact hours.
Students studying Learning Support will be required to complete practicum courses that involve approximately 20 contact hours.
Students may incur costs associated with the practicum (e.g. travel, parking, stationery). Practicum placements may be located throughout Australia or overseas. Students are required to have a current Blue Card (Working with Children Check) before commencing practicum in Queensland. Students can apply for a Blue Card through the School of Education and should do so three months before their practicum is due to commence.

To undertake a placement in a Queensland school, you will be required to possess a Blue Card and be registered as a teacher in Queensland. To complete the Master of Educational Studies

To fulfil the requirements of the Master of Educational Studies, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.

#16 program: A student is required to obtain #16 as per -

  • #16 PG courses; or
  • #12 PG courses + #4 Project; or
  • #10 PG courses + #6 Project; or
  • #8 PG courses + #8 extended Project as approved by the Head of School.
#24 program: A student is required to obtain #24 as per -
  • #24 PG courses; or
  • #20 PG courses + #4 Project; or
  • #18 PG courses + #6 Project; or
  • #16 PG courses + #8 Extended Project as approved by the Head of School
