- An Honours or Masters degree in law leading to admission to legal practice (eg LLB(Hons), JD or equivalent) with a GPA of 4; or
- A degree in law leading to admission to legal practice (eg LLB or equivalent) with a GPA of 4; and either -
- a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice or equivalent qualification; or
- two years of professional full-time (or equivalent) work experience in the same discipline, approved by the Executive Dean; or
- An equivalent academic or professional qualification in law and be able to demonstrate to the satisfaction of the Executive Dean that you have the requisite knowledge and experience to complete the program.

Why study the Master of Laws?
The Master of Laws (LLM) #16 is designed to enhance the theoretical and practical expertise of students and provide them with a professional edge. Students will improve their independent and critical thinking and research skills. The courses offered are predominantly driven by the needs of contemporary legal practice. They include courses in highly specialized areas as well as more general areas where the principles underpinning that area are complex and require a depth of understanding.

Classes may be held at the St Lucia campus as well as Brisbane city venues. Not all courses listed are offered each year; applicants should contact the School of Law for up-to-date information in relation to course offerings.

International students are strongly encouraged to register in Orientation Week to attend an optional English for Academic Communication (EAC) program. The program is conducted jointly by staff of the Institute of Continuing and TESOL Education (ICTE) and the Law School. International students are given a brief overview of the Australian legal framework and the common law system. The program also provides an opportunity for new students to meet each other socially.

To complete the Master of Laws
To graduate with a Master of Laws a student must have successfully completed all requirements of the program as certified by the Executive Dean. This includes courses to be taken to complete the program and any other specific conditions of the program including admission, enrolment and progression requirements.
