Why study the Bachelor of Economics?

Economics is the study of human behaviour related to the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services, by means of markets, businesses or other institutions. As individuals, communities, companies and governments, we face choices every day, weighing up the costs and benefits of our decisions. This program provides the necessary skills to understand and explain how economic incentives and markets work, and how prices are formed. It provides strong statistical modelling and data analysis as well as an extensive conceptual toolkit to equip you to see the world through an economic lens. You will graduate with the skills, knowledge and abilities to think like an economist.

ECON3380 is a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course that provides you with the opportunity to apply theoretical and conceptual knowledge to the workplace via a professional placement. Careers
Graduates work in a range of fields including international consulting; infrastructure development and planning; environmental management; international finance; investment and trade; natural resource and agricultural economics; public health; treasury and statistics.
Employment opportunities exist in the following: education - universities and secondary schools; financial institutions, stockbroking firms and merchant banks; international organisations (Asian Development Bank, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, World Health Organisation) providing policy advice and expertise for economic development and infrastructure projects; private sector multinational corporations and local firms; public sector government departments and agencies (local, State and Federal) in economic policy, regulation, finance or public accounting; public utilities in the fields of transport, communications and power supply; specialists/consultants in training and management development, business law, industrial relations, or information technology; specialist organisations such as industry associations, management consultancies, market research/advertising organisations, and trade unions.

Program rules for the Bachelor of Economics
To complete the Bachelor of Economics
To graduate with a Bachelor of Economics a student must have successfully completed all requirements of the program as certified by the Executive Dean. This includes courses to be taken to complete the program and any other specific conditions of the program including admission, enrolment and progression requirements.
