Why study the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences (Honours)?

The Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences (Honours) explores the complex nature of human movement and how the body reacts to acute and chronic physical activity pursuits such as general fitness regimens, recreational activities and elite sports. As a student of this program you will gain a solid understanding of key biological, social and health sciences, as well as core knowledge in the fields of biomechanics, motor control, exercise physiology, physical activity and health, exercise and sport psychology, and functional anatomy. You will learn in a variety of professional settings to gain extensive practical experience and preparation for professional practice in exercise science and related areas. After a year of study, you may enrol in a Clinical Exercise Physiology (CEP) major which covers all aspects for you to be eligible for a Medicare provider number to practice as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP)*. You will learn specialist skills in the prescription and management of exercise for different client groups including the elderly and people with chronic illnesses (e.g. cardiovascular disease and neurological conditions).

Placement courses

Exercise and Sports Science Stream: 400 hours of practicum experience related to exercise and sports science. Clinical Exercise Physiology Stream: 500 hours of practicum experience related to exercise delivery for low risk and clinical populations.

The School of Human Movement Studies is committed to the reduction of urban bias in the content of its programs. Students undertaking clinical practicum as part of their programs in the School of Human Movement Studies could, therefore, be allocated placements outside the Brisbane metropolitan area. When allocated placements are rural/ remote/ regional, students should expect to fund these places independently. Allocation of placements will be as equitable as possible and issues of hardship will be dealt with at the discretion of the Practicum and Clinical Education Manager.

Honours

Honours will be awarded to all graduates of this program.

To complete the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences (Honours)

To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences (Honours), a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.

A student is required to obtain #64 from the BExSS(Hons) course list. Refer to the BExSS(Hons) rules for further information.
