Why study the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery?
A partnership between UQ and the Ochsner Health System in New Orleans established the UQ-Ochsner MBBS program for up to 120 USA citizens and USA permanent residents each year.
This graduate entry program produces highly skilled doctors capable of meeting future challenges in a wide variety of careers. Years 1 and 2 of the program provides students with a strong foundation of knowledge and clinical skills training in preparation for clinical practice later years, which consists of 10 core clinical rotations. The curriculum has been designed with an emphasis on problem-based learning and group work.
The program's key features include: the simultaneous learning of clinical, biological and social sciences; the improved teaching of communication skills; learning approaches that encourage lifelong learning skills; ethics and professional development; and the incorporation of information technology and computing skills to ensure that graduates are able to utilise technological advances to improve their learning skills and knowledge acquisition.

Placement courses
Clinical Placements are an integral component of the MBBS program. Students complete an elective placement at the end of year 1. In years three and four of the program students undertake clinical rotations principally at the Ochsner Clinical School in New Orleans, USA. Students return to Australia in Year 4 to complete one 8 week clinical rotation.
All MBBS students are required to have a Blue Card (Working with Children Check) issued by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian by first day of classes. Students must also have a current Apply First Aid Certificate (including CPR) and provide evidence of immunisation. Honours
Honours is a modified program of study in year 3 and 4, with entry based on grade point average.

To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.
