Additional application requirements

To enrol for Honours, a student must have completed the requirements for the Bachelor of Economics, or hold an equivalent approved degree with a GPA of 5.5 in all ECON coded courses, and:

  • if the chosen field is Econometrics, have obtained a grade of 5 or higher in each of the following pre-requisite courses: ECON2050, ECON3010, ECON3020, ECON3320, ECON3330, ECON3350 or ECON3360; or satisfy the executive dean and head of school that the student is suitably qualified to undertake honours.

  • if the chosen field is Economics, have obtained a grade of 5 or higher in each of ECON2050, ECON3010, ECON3020 and ECON3350 or ECON3360; or satisfy the executive dean and head of school that the student is suitably qualified to undertake honours.

Applications received after the 30 September will be accepted, however in order to be automatically considered for scholarships your application must be received by 1 December.

Graduates obtain employment in a range of fields depending on areas of specialisation and interest, including international consulting, infrastructure development & planning, environmental management, international finance, investment & trade, natural resource & agricultural economics, public health, treasury, actuarial science & statistics.

Program rules for the Bachelor of Economics (Honours)

To complete the Bachelor of Economics (Honours)

To fulfil the requirements of the Bachelor of Economics (Honours), a student must complete the requisite number of courses chosen from the course list in accordance with the Program Rules.

A student is required to obtain 16 units from one major in the BEcon(Hons) list. Refer to the BEcon(Hons) rules for further information.

With Head of School approval, a student may include as electives 2 units of level 6 or level 7 ACCT, FINM, IBUS, INFS, MGTS, MKTG, ORGC, TIMS or ECON courses.

The class of honours is calculated on the basis of the grade point average of the results obtained by a student in the first attempt at all courses that contribute to the program (see PPL 3.50.12b of the Policy and Procedures Library).
