Why study Water and Marine Engineering?

Water and Marine Engineers work to keep communities safe from floods and cyclones in the face of a changing environment and are at the forefront of developing the next generation of renewable energy systems for a cleaner world. Water and Marine engineers must constantly develop new skills to understand and manage the natural events (storms, droughts) that shape our present and future environments and societies. Water and Marine engineers use innovative monitoring and modelling techniques to design efficient, adaptable and sustainable waterways, coastlines and resilient infrastructure. They design and build renewable hydropower and ocean energy systems essential to reducing carbon emissions and managing climate change. Water and Marine engineers have the capacity to create innovative solutions to engineering challenges facing our societies, using a wide variety of fundamental and technical knowledge to solve advanced and singular design problems that work with the natural environment. You will learn how to protect large areas of inland flood plains, beaches, estuarine zones and coral reefs and lead Australia's efforts in developing promising locations for water resources, hydro-power and tidal and wave energy.
