Why study Resilient Communities?
Contemporary and future challenges in global change and sustainable development require both an understanding of communities, as well as an appreciation of effective community interventions. The Resilient Communities field in the Master of Sustainable Systems offers a suite of theories and skills for facilitating interventions with individuals, groups and communities, to help them understand and enhance the resilience of the complex systems they inhabit. Offering many of the courses in intensive or distance mode encourages participation by regionally-based and mature-age students seeking to build on their existing professional experience. This field also caters for international students and others seeking full-time, on campus enrolment. Students will be able to develop personal specialisations by selecting electives in particular areas of interest, from other fields of the MSS, as well as from integrated water management, community relations for mining, governance and public policy, and development practice.
