Why study Quality and Safety?

The community expects health care to be safe and effective, but the prospect of a system in crisis may not be a future possibility but a present reality challenging clinicians, managers and policy makers.

Courses within this field of study focus on developing knowledge and skills for clinicians in the key areas of patient-centeredness, evidence-based practice, continuous quality improvement, management and evaluation of quality projects, patient safety systems, human factors and working with organisational complexity.

A focus in this field of study will enable the health professional to participate in or lead teams working actively on improving the quality, safety and effectiveness of health care.

All portions of these studies are also offered as continuing education modules. Persons wishing to be awarded a Graduate Certificate in Health Sciences must complete at least one-third of the 8 units of the Graduate Certificate while specifically enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Health Sciences at UQ.
