Why study Nutrition?

Human nutrition is a global term which concerns the way that foods and nutrients are acquired and used. It includes studies in biomedical science, biochemistry, nutrition, behavioural sciences and food sciences. The nutrition major in the Bachelor of Health Sciences also includes supporting studies in health systems, public health and indigenous health. This will enable graduates to work as community nutritionists, encouraging the population to achieve healthier eating and reducing the burden of diet-related disease. Other careers are in the area of health promotion, project officer or community health. The degree provides the basis for further studies in public health, health management or research.

The Bachelor of Health Sciences with a major in nutrition is a recommended pathway to the Master of Dietetics Studies and satisfies all the pre-requisite courses required for that program. Due to the sequencing of courses there is no Semester 2 entry into the nutrition major.
